Scudder Kemper Investments Survey Reveals that Even as Coverage of Internet Investing Revolution Increases, Most Americans Are Unfamiliar With Concept Of
DIFFERENCES (value-investing vs. growth-investing) ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Thus far everything relating to stock selection has revolved around earnings-per-share. Although both strategies have much in common, they march to a different drummer. Value investing leaves the door wide-open to low-growth stocks like utilities and automakers, but slams the door shut on stocks deemed overvalued. In sharp contrast, growth investing leaves the door wide-open to overvalued stocks but slams it shut on low-growth companies. The best strategy to use hinges on the condition that you personally believe is more desirable, a high-growth stock or an undervalued stock.
Said Joan Wood, Senior Vice President at Scudder Kemper Investments, The dot-com investing revolution has coincided with an explosion of financial news coverage -- everything from new cable channels to investment Web sites. It has been assumed that Americans have a voracious appetite for context and commentary about the evolving investing landscape. This may be true, but this survey reveals that most Americans believe the media is chiefly responsible for creating a hyped atmosphere.
This page used to be called my Warren Bufett collection of Net Links, but I’ ve expanded it to include other sites on value investing in general. You’ll still find lots of links to Warren here, but much more as well.
What’s the difference between a financial adviser and a financial planner? Damned if I know. I’ve classified as advisers those individuals that sell stocks as well as mutual funds and they’re listed in the Brokers & Investment Advisers category above. Financial Planners I’ve taken to be individuals or companies specializing in a big picture outlook in personal financial management, covering everything from debt management to insurance to investing and RRSPs. Most such planners are licensed to sell mutual funds but not stocks. And most have a CFP or RFP certification, though this is not required by law and there are many freelance planners with no such credentials. In any event, they’re listed here.
